Located at Xiguanshan Hill in the east of Rongxian, this site was discovered and excavated by Prof. C. C. Young (Young Zhongjian), the founder of Chinese Vertebrate Paleontology, together with American paleontologist Prof. C. L. Camp in 1936. The fossil is a skeleton of a giant sauropod dinosaur with a body length of approximately 15 meters. It was named as Omeisaurus junghsiensis by Prof C. C. Young in 1939. This is not only the first relatively complete skeleton of fossil dinosaur discovered in Zigong area, but also the earliest named dinosaur by scientists in the region, or even in the Sichuan Basin.
