Aiye Ancient Town

Aiye Ancient Town has a very long history, and is a birthplace of well salt production in Gongjing District. It has been 2000 years since ancestors in Aiye Town started to produce well salt as early as the period of Western Han Dynasty. The town pattern of nowadays became to forming in Xianfeng Period of Qing Dynasty (1851-1861), locating in the westernmost of Zigong saltern. It was built along the Fuxi River, stretching from south to north. Aiye Ancient Town is the key place for salt transportation, regarded as the first town of salt transportation of Zigong. It has been listed as one of the Historical and Cultural Towns of China since 2014. Many historical remains have been well preserved, such as Pingkang Bridge, Pingkang Weir, Aiye Beach Wharf, Hengjie Street, Tiangong Hall, and Tombs of Han Dynasty. Among them, Aiye Beach Wharf consists of the upper and the lower wharfs, covering an area of 650 square meters. It was the largest wharf in ancient Gongjing, and is the most intact existing salt industry traffic project here.
