It is located in Ma’anshan Hill, Da’an District, Zigong. Ma’anshan Clay was named by geologists Tan Xichou and Li Chunyu in 1933 based on a suite of mudstone exposed here as a lithologic stratum of Ziliujing Bed. Later it was put into Ma’anshan Member, a middle member of the Lower Jurassic Ziliujing Formation. Ma’anshan Clay, 90 m thick, is dominated by purple silty mudstone with greenish gray muddy siltstone. The ripples are common in the siltstone. It was formed in a very shallow lacustrine-shallow lacustrine environment.
