Shenhai Well
Shenhai Well, located at Changyantang, Da'an District, is the world’s first well of more than 1,000 meters deep. It reached 1,001.42 meters in 1835 A.D. (the 15th year of Daoguang Emperor’s reign in the Qing Dynasty). It indicates the maturity of Chinese ancient drilling technology and is a landmark in the world history of science and technology. This drilling technique is famous as “the fifth invention in China” and “the father of oil drilling”. In 1988, Shenhai Well was announced as the national key cultural relic protection unit.
