Zigong UNESCO Global Geopark Establishes Sister Ties with Yunyang Geopark

From 8 to 9 January 2024, Yunyang Geopark visited Zigong UNESCO Global Geopark for investigation and exchange. Meanwhile, the two geoparks officially established sister ties.

During the visit, the two geoparks conducted in-depth exchanges and discussions on geopark construction and development, geological site conservation, evaluation and inspection, science popularisation and scientific research, publicity and promotion, etc. Besides, Yunyang Geopark also visited the Zigong Dinosaur Museum, Salt Industry History Museum, Shenhai Well, and other scenic areas of Zigong UNESCO Global Geopark and learned about their experience in resource display, signage system construction, tourism facilities, and achievement transformation and utilisation.

On the morning of 9 January, the Administrator Centre of Zigong UNESCO Global Geopark and the Yunyang Pu'an Dinosaur Fossil Management Committee signed a cooperation agreement, indicating that Yunyang Geopark and Zigong UNESCO Global Geopark officially established sister ties. As per the agreement, the two sides will carry out exchanges and cooperation in geopark management, geological site and environmental conservation, science popularisation, personnel training, and other aspects to inject new momentum into the sustainable development of geoparks.

The establishment of the sister ties between the geoparks in Sichuan and Chongqing embodies a part of the efforts of the two places to implement the guiding principles of General Secretary Xi Jinping's important speech on promoting the construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle and the Outline of the Construction Plan for the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle. Meanwhile, it also provides an effective way to promote scientific research on middle Jurassic dinosaur fossils to make more breakthroughs. In the future, the two sides will learn from each other's advanced experience and scientific practices in geopark resource protection and utilisation, co-build a platform for geopark conservation, scientific research, construction and development, and contribute to the high-quality development of global geoparks together.
