Stratigraphic Section of the Lower Cretaceous Wotoushan Formation at Sanxingding

It is located in Sanxingding, Rongxian. The formation has 6 m thick brick red shale intercalated with minor siltstone at the top; the upper part is dominated by brick red thick bedded to massive ferruginous-argillaceous inequigranular quartz sandstone; the middle part is brick red thick bedded to massive irony ferruginous-argillaceous inequigranular lithic feldspar-quartz sandstone; the lower part is brick red macrofragmented ferruginous-argillaceous inequigranular feldspar-quartz sandstone. The lower sandstone has oblique bedding; the middle sandstone contains minor Ca-bearing or calcareous sandstone nodeules, intercalated with sandy micrite lenticles and minor marl; the bottom is 0-0.7 m thick pebbled sandstone, wherein pebbles are mainly quartzite, with extremely good roundness. The formation is in disconformable contact with the underlying Penglaizhen Formation, 109.6m thick.
